The best light show in Brooklyn to return to the Botanical Garden
The magical lights will glow again in the garden.
In just a week, the Lightscape show returns to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The beloved lights illuminate a mile-long path in the garden, creating a magical holiday experience. In addition to events like the Dyker Heights Light Show, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is one of the few places in the borough to host a Christmas light show, making it a fixture when it returns.
This year, well over a million lights will be used in the displays. Now in its fourth year, the show has become a holiday favorite among visitors and Brooklynites alike, offering a magical seasonal experience. The displays will feature all-new installations alongside returning favorites created by artists from ten different countries on three different continents.

Upon entering, visitors will find the illuminated fountain show in the pond of Japan's Hill-and-Pond Garden, a fan-favorite installation that has been reimagined and reprogrammed for 2024. One of the new displays, aptly titled Ribbon Tunnel, features a kaleidoscopic installation near Bluebell Wood that immerses visitors in a multicolored, prismatic experience. Visitors will also witness giant, 7-meter-high sculptures with unique shapes inspired by animals, including butterflies and squids, created with more than six thousand individual lights.
“Lightscape is New York City's most immersive and enchanting way to spend a winter evening and enjoy the spirit of the season in community. This year once again offers a beautiful multi-sensory experience for all who enter the path,” said Adrian Benepe, President & CEO of Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
This year the garden also presents an extensive food and drink menu. As well as your usual cup of hot hot chocolate, adults aged 21 and over can enjoy mulled wine, hot cider and a wide range of other drinks, plus an extensive food menu in their on-site restaurant, The Canteen.
“The visual dazzle created by the world's best lighting artists is complemented by a beautiful soundtrack and delicious food and drinks to warm up with – all in celebration of the beauty of BBG,” Benepe continued. “We can't wait for New Yorkers and visitors to gather with friends or family, grab a hot cider and experience the otherworldly magic of Lightscape.”
In addition to extensive menus, the Garden offers curated experiences so that everyone can enjoy the garden. On December 12 and 19 after 7pm, adult visitors aged 21 and over are invited to grab a mulled wine or hot chocolate and enjoy all that Lightscape has to offer. On December 18, 2024 and January 3, 2025 at 4:00 PM, adults and children with disabilities or sensory sensitivity are invited to enjoy the screening without the usual large number of people. Capacity is limited to ensure the trail remains less crowded and more relaxed.
On Tuesday, December 10, the garden will host their fourth annual Lightscape Family Benefit fundraiser for children and their families. Guests can enjoy trailside treats amid dazzling colors as they stroll the outdoor path. Money from the benefit supports the garden's youth and educational programs. raises important funds to support the Garden's youth education programs. The garden is also collaborating with music company SONY this year and visitors will also have a playlist of more than 20 songs specially composed for the garden.
The show comes after Saks Fifth Avenue announced that it will not do its iconic light show this year, citing the focus on the architectural structure and what many believe is due to financial problems.
Tickets start at $24 for adults and $12 for children on economy nights and go up to $45 and $23 on peak attendance days. Tickets can be purchased on their website or personally in the garden.
