If you’re a Nutella fan and love flaky, buttery pastries, Nutella Cruffins will become your new obsession. These delicious hybrid treats combine the best of croissants and muffins: light, crispy layers with gooey, melted chocolate in every bite.
Perfect for breakfast, brunch or a quick dessert, these cruffins are sure to impress without taking hours to make. Plus, with just three main ingredients, they’re the epitome of simplicity and indulgence. Ready to bake something irresistibly good?
Ingredients needed:
- Chilled puff pastry: I used Jus-Rol brand refrigerated puff pastry. You can also use frozen puff pastry, but you will need to thaw it in the refrigerator first and you may need to roll the dough out to about 15 inches long.
- Nutella: If desired, you can use any hazelnut spread you like.
- Mini chocolate chips: You can use regular chocolate chips or white chocolate chips, or leave them out altogether.
Nutella Cruffins can be stored in an airtight container or bag at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. They can also be frozen for up to 2 months. Be sure to thaw frozen cruffins in the refrigerator and reheat them in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes or until heated through. They can also be reheated in the microwave, but this will affect the texture of the cruffins.
These Nutella Cruffins can easily be customized if desired. The Nutella can be replaced with any nut or chocolate spread if desired. The mini chocolate chips can be replaced with any type of mix-in, such as white chocolate chips, chopped pecans, hazelnuts, or sprinkles. You can also use a different type of dough, such as croissant dough, pizza dough, or pie dough. Keep in mind that different types of dough take different amounts of time to cook and can affect the final texture of the cruffin.
Yes! You can prepare them the night before and bake them fresh in the morning. Just cover the muffin tin with plastic wrap and store it in the fridge overnight.
Absolutely! Once baked and cooled, store in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven or toaster oven to get them crispy again.
These can also be stored in the fridge for up to five days, although they may lose some of their crispness. Reheat them in the oven to bring back their flakiness.

How to make Nutella Cruffins
- Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius and spray a muffin tin with baking spray.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a clean surface, long side down, and spread the Nutella evenly over the puff pastry.
- Sprinkle the mini chocolate chips over the Nutella.
- Roll the puff pastry from the bottom as tightly as possible, so that you create one long roll.
- Cut each roll in half, so that you have two shorter rolls. In total you will have 4 rolls.

- Roll each half up tightly and fold the ends under. Then place the halves in the muffin tin.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 33-35 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through.
Remove the lid and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until the outside is golden brown and crispy (optional). - Let the cruffins cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pan and serving. Sprinkle with extra Nutella if desired.
